PGMS Counselor, Dr. Sarai Johnson

                                                                                                            Dr. Sarai Johnson

Renaissance scholar, Michel de Montaigne, often referred to as the father of contemporary education, was once quoted as saying, "I do not teach, I relate." This statement speaks directly to Dr. Sarai Johnson about the calling that she feels has been placed on her life. Born the seventh of eight children to Clarence Johnson and the late Josephine Johnson, Dr. Johnson learned at an early age the importance of family, unity, loyalty, and trust. The struggles her parents endured afforded her the opportunity to witness that anything is attainable if one believes and is determined to succeed. Little did Dr. Johnson know at the time, these experiences would help shape her character.

Dr. Johnson is a graduate of Alcorn State University where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education, a Master of Science Degree in Secondary Education, and a Specialist Degree in Elementary Education. Additionally, she received a Doctor of Education in Early Childhood Degree from Jackson State University. Dr. Johnson currently serves as Counselor at Port Gibson Middle School and as an Adjunct Professor at Alcorn State University in the Department of Education and Psychology. Prior to these positions, she has worked as a Classroom Educator and Interventionist. During her time as Interventionist, Dr. Johnson founded Watson P.E.A.R.L.S. (Purity and Purpose, Excellence in Education, Authenticity, Respectful Relationships, Leadership, and Sisterhood) to provide positive accolades and empowerment for young ladies. During her appointment as Counselor, Dr. Johnson founded B.R.A.V.O. (Building Responsibility and Valuing Ourselves), a team comprised of males and females who were at risk of failing academically and socially.
Although Dr. Johnson has a wealth of accolades and experiences to be proud of, her greatest accomplishment was becoming a mother. Dr. Johnson is the proud mother of one son, Jabari De'Shawn.
